An exciting weekend!
On Saturday, April 29, 2006, we finally got our cattle... a whole herd of two cows!!! However, one of the cows we bought came in a very poor condition (she got injured in delivery) and was unable to even stand up and to top it all off, she was pregnant too! Because she was doing so poorly, the man we bought her from induced her before trucking her to our pasture. He hoped that she would regain some strength if she had her calf. Well, on Sunday morning, right after meeting, Jackson came running from the pasture and said, "The calf is coming!" We all ran out there, including some of the meeting group, and were able to watch the calf be born! A tiny, jet black, male calf! Very exciting! Unfortunately, the cow, dubbed "Mama Moo", was still unable to stand and could barely even raise her head because she was so weak. And so we have been bottle feeding little "Black Sambo" (named by G'ma Suhumskie). We have also been lifting "Mama Moo" up using a device on the loader of the tractor so that she can eat and drink and "Sambo" can have a chance to suck whatever milk is left in his mommy's udder.
